“A call to reclaim America’s Faith & Promise”
This book was gifted to me by booksneeze (www.booksneeze.com), and really is not my kind of read. There is a lot of research done here, and one should certainly offer their respects for the amount of work. The Scripture citation is few and far between, so one cannot judge whether or not she (Dr. Carol Swain) handled her convictions accurately.
I suppose the underlying question for me would be, should such a thin line between church and state be argued for? Are Christians to be fighting for the reinstatement of God’s laws into a legislative form? I understand we should be concerned for all people, globally, whether or not they are Christians, but should we (Christians) be hesitant to mandate the Word of the Lord? Does that not take away from the free will (that God instilled within each of us) to follow such rules?
That being said, I probably surveyed this text from a biased perspective. The deliberating conversations throughout the book concerning democrats and republicans, alongside the exhortation to revisit such pronouncements as the 1964 Civil Rights Act, just do not chime well with me as far as where Christians should be expending their energies. Not to mention, it is hard for me to swallow a sentence that places the Ten Commandments directly beside the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. That is my opinion alone.
If this, the weakening of Christianity’s presence in the governing of the American people, is a concern of yours, this book is worth a read.
