Why Church Matters by Joshua Harris
Why Church Matters isn’t a comprehensive discussion of the history of the Christian Church, nor is it even a survey of churches around the country or world — it is more of an exhortation to non-church goers, to church goers, and even to those who work inside the church day in and day out.
It is a call for all Christians to take a second look at the body of Christ, the bride of Christ. Take a second look and give her the attention that she deserves. Joshua Harris discusses matters of the church straight from his heart, almost like he’s got a very well thought out journal; he just pours his heart and mind into the pages of this short book. He speaks as someone who has “dated” the church before because he has actually been in those shoes. He’s put them on and hopped around from congregation to congregation, never really satisfied with the blessing that was sitting right before him.
And that blessing, the church, is what he calls his readers to reconsider. Reconsider your own role in your local church. Reconsider your hesitancy to commit, to become a member. And, in order to make more of your congregational worship, reconsider the days leading up to or following your Sunday gathering.
Why put so much thought into this? Because church matters.
