We all know of the rat race, or what many people call the American Dream. We spend more, we work more, we stress more. We never have enough money, or enough stuff, do we? Luckily Will Davis Jr. is not only a man who has noticed the insufficiencies that us Americans believe that we face, but he is also a disciple who is obviously deeply saturated by the Words of Jesus Christ.
Davis asks his readers, when is enough enough? When and where do we draw the line in what we own and what we allow to own us? Even more so, where do we draw the line in what we owe? We are a culture of debt and sleepless nights. Our lives are on so many trajectories that we hesitate to shut off our smartphones while laying in bed (myself included). Smartphones — do you know how blessed you are that you have a smartphone? Do you know there are people around the world that are simply crying for sleep, let alone having to worry about what is on their RSS feed that is keeping them awake.

Davis has shown me that our perspectives are all out of whack. We are pursuing tangible goals that will pass away so very soon. We are not laying up for ourselves and for our brothers and sisters treasures where moths and rust are powerless, we are smothering our lives with comfortability and convenience. With sound biblical understanding, Davis admits that we are not called to be homeless, but we are certainly not called to be horders either.
My closing thoughts on this book are as follows:
The book is not your typical text on simplicity or the presently popular message of selling all you have and living on the streets because Jesus said you’re supposed to be poor. Davis balances the reality of Christian life between two worlds — that is to say, we are not in heaven yet and we are to live as responsible stewards to what God has graciously given to us. Davis reminded me that when we meet our Provider, we will be held accountable for what we have been given.
Are we using it to make ourselves comfortable now?
Or are we using God’s provisions to reveal Christ to someone else?
This book is perfect for any body who is a Christian and has an income, that simple.
