That said, let me tell you a little bit about myself and then a little about this book.
Currently, I am on a leadership team of friends who will be planting a community in North Canton, Ohio. I have a lot on my mind about both what ministry and what a minister is. For me, Tripp could not have published this book at a better time. The picture that he paints is heart-wrenching and beautiful. He recounts firsthand stories of pastors who have been affected by the reality of the work that entails being a sinful human being who points sinful human beings to the wonderful, sinless God.
If you stop and think about it than you realize that that is a recipe for mishap. Satan is lurking around every single corner, crouched and ready for his prey. What if we realized that, as Tripp tells us over and over through his book, there is not another single person who preaches to us more than ourselves. That being the case, we are responsible for personally revisiting the Gospel daily.
That is the message broadly, but Tripp seldom speaks in general terms. He speaks to individuals and he speaks both candidly and practically. If I were completely honest, and there is no reason to not be, I seldom sat for a portion of reading and did not begin to weep for the many people Tripp has encountered and for the reality that could be mine if I am not to heed Tripp’s words.
