If you follow our website, you already know that we’re fans of Logos Bible Software and it doesn’t take much for me to geek out over the resources that they provide to thousands of studiers of God’s Word. But when we came across this library, I was absolutely floored. How in the world did the team from Logos Bible Software not only add, but also index and tag 1000+ magazines, over 60 years of articles from Christianity Today?

Why Have a Christianity Today Archive?

Aside from having decades of thoughts from hundreds of respected evangelical thinkers, why would somebody want fully indexed and searchable version of Christianity Today Magazine? The most practical of examples is from the pastor’s perspective, having to be especially rooted in what people are saying and and around the Christian faith – not just God’s Word itself. What have people said over the years about believing in God? Or what about God’s influence – or lack there of – when it comes to racism, natural disasters, national events, our vocation, and other having questions like those?

Christianity Today appears to have made it their primary objective to approach these discussions head on over the years. Here’s how I see the conversations that take place in Christianity Today. I liken these articles to grabbing coffee with respected minds, let me explain. The finished product of a published book is the result of countless hours of research in which authors stew over each and every word. Journals, like the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, are usually right beyond that in approachability, particularly when it comes to the layperson picking it up, reading it, and applying it to everyday. Articles found in resources like Christianity Today, on the other hand, make me feel like I’m grabbing coffee with a pastor or scholar, with time to ask down-to-earth questions and apply the weighty topics that they’ve marinated on so intently.

Take for example an article from 2011’s Volume 55 of Christianity Today, Dr. McNutt writes an article entitled, “The Enduring Church: Believers in every age worry about the collapse of the faith.” (Christianity Today [Carol Stream, IL: Christianity Today International, 2011]) Dr. McNutt is not only Associate Professor of Theology and History of Christianity, but she is also the Degree Coordinator of the M.A. in History of Christianity and M.A. in Theology at Wheaton College in Illionis. She’s well-educated and well-published, but she provides guidance for the Church and her leaders in a way that is practical and inspiring as she points out, “Perhaps the most notable truth of the history of Christianity, then, is the endurance of the church despite our efforts.”

My point simply is this, being able to sort through the archives of these great minds as they share such valuable truths in ways that are understandable to everyday believers is an incredible gift from Faithlife and Logos Bible Software to the Christian community.
