Believe in miracles!
For a family of four, going to a Christmas light display should have been a wonderful holiday memory. Instead, for the Murkison family, a fateful car accident on the way home left seven-year-old Brian in a coma from which doctors thought he would never awaken. Both Brian and his older brother Ben were airlifted from the accident scene, and Brian immediately taken into emergency surgery to remove a bleed on his brain; the diagnosis was a severe traumatic brain injury, likely to be fatal.
When faced with the likelihood that Brian would not survive, the family drew strength and inspiration from God, and others around them. In responding to a prayer intention from South Korea, Ben sparked a world-wide prayer chain when he asked “Do we know anyone in Fiji to pray for us”? The call went out on social media, and responses flooded in. Friends helped the Murkisons keep track of the prayer requests and before long a map depicting prayers coming from every state, and countries around the world, even Fiji, showed the Murkison family was not in this alone.
Sadly, Brian’s condition deteriorated and he was admitted to hospice care four days before Christmas. Ben, his older brother, remained convinced that a miracle was still possible, and he inspired the family to pray for a miracle and ask all those following to do the same. What happened next is an amazing and beautiful testament to God’s healing power, and to what putting faith in God can accomplish.
