I’ll be honest from the start — I thought this would be a corny, irrelevant approach to families and how they operate. I imagined it to be a little like the Waltons. I was raised with three brothers, so you can imagine how calm our house was on most evenings! I think the authors resonate with people who aren’t the Waltons. They published this book because they recognize a conversation needs to be had about these issues. How do we represent Christ to our kids? How do our kids confidently represent their King to the darkness of this world? It’s not an easy task, but the Harneys provide great insight for us all to give a listening ear to!

I would be most excited to see this book land in the hands of parents. Mothers and fathers have got to understand their role as the light that lights their children. On the flipside, I have seen young adults become interested in “doing things right” as they launch their families and as they concretize their own self in the community and their families. All that to say, this book isn’t just for parents of kids or even for grandparents who are contemplating how to reach your neighbors; I would be equally excited to see young folks who are interested in raising a healthy, outward-looking family. This is not a book about the workplace; I will be doing another book soon representing Christ in the workplace (called SHOW ME HOW TO SHOW CHRIST IN THE WORKPLACE by Larry Moyer). This book is not about using sports to reach your community. THIS IS A BOOK ABOUT FAMILIES; how your family is to look inside the walls of the house and how it is to look outside of its haven.
