It’s been six years since the day that I truly put my faith in Jesus Christ. That’s wild. To me at least. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long (and maybe it isn’t), but there’s one thing that reminds me that it has indeed been six years since I first believed:
I’d almost forgotten something essential about the Gospel; something that, if left out of the Gospel, changes what it is at all.
I have to say, this was not enjoyable to discover and confess, much less to share with however many of you are reading this right now. But God, in His even still unfathomable and perfect love, was, is, and always will be abundantly gracious with me, and my own conviction is what is leading me to write this series.
Friends, when we try to change one thing about the Gospel that’s found in the Bible, we deceive ourselves, and we enter into serious danger. So during the next couple of weeks, these are my prayers and my hopes:
The Gospel, to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ:
I hope that this is a loving reminder that convicts your heart and realigns your mind with the true Gospel. You have have been saved by grace through faith, but you are nevertheless a saved sinner in this still sinful world. Until Christ returns, our minds are still quick to wander from the precious truth that the Gospel is and brings. We will never be Christians long enough to not need a reminder.
The Gospel, to the people whom I love with all of my heart and are not yet fellow brothers and sister in Christ:
I hope this is a rude and wonderful awakening. I hope it is exactly what it should be: Good News! The BEST news! That it is a combination of bewildering, life-changing, wonderful, crazy, offensive, relieving, joy inducing blog series that leads you straight to the arms and hope of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
By the grace of God and the power of His Spirit who dwells within me, I pray that my small, powerless words will be made powerful, for the glory of the Lord, the encouragement of the saints, and the salvation of lost souls.
