WHAT A STORY!

Only a couple of weeks ago, a friend told me about Lopez and mentioned his story to me. Just like the subtitle says, his story is about transitioning from “the killing fields of Sudan to the Olympic Games.” The first-person account of his life, from his kidnapping to the ushering in of the U.S. Olympic team, to the continuation of his legacy with his present day activities … this is an incredible story.

It blows my mind that Lopez is just as old as I am and has been through and overcame so much. Michael Johnson (the 400m world record holder) wrote a blurb, commenting on this book, and he said “Lopez Lomong’s story is one of true inspiration. His life is a story of courage, hard work, never giving up, and having hope where there is hopelessness all around. Lopez is a true role model.” I place that quote in here because Johnson just hits the nail on the head — more than a story about track or the Africa’s need for help, the book is about overcoming adversity and the perspective that people CAN have in the midst of trouble.

It’s a powerful testimony to the Christian faith that is priceless for anybody, whether a runner or not.
