The book is written for “tweens” … not teens but those in the in-between. I think it is more geared toward 9-12th graders than middle schoolers, but the lessons aren’t too difficult for any age really. The problem that I have seen some people (parents) have with the book is that it brings to the surface some pretty difficult issues, like pornography and violent video games. You’d think that parents would be on board for discussing those areas of life (especially as they relate to living as a Christian), but I think many would prefer the “out of sight and out of mind” theory. That being said, this devotional may be a better discussion starter with your child than a take-and-read-on-your-own kind of devotional.

The time commitment for this devotional isn’t much, just make sure your children are being intentional about their time in the Word. It’s a great addition to youth ministry!

Here’s what the back cover reads:

“Discover a whole new side to yourself and relationship with God in just a minute a day! Around the Word in 60 Seconds is the perfect daily guide for guys and girls who wants to go deeper in life and walk more closely with God. You’ll learn how to handle tough situations with spiritual strength through 52 weeks of stories about major stuff you deal with every day, like

  • love
  • family
  • friends
  • money
  • temptation
  • school
  • and much more

Each week you’ll find activities, prayers, and verses to help bring to life what you’re reading. Through these short, daily interactions with God you’ll learn what it means to truly follow Jesus with a changed heart.”
